Travel Agent Marketing Strategies for Beginners

There are millions of travel agents worldwide. Some have just started, while others have been in the business for decades. Veteran travel agents have built strong client bases over time, and their work and years of expertise are basically how they market themselves.

But what if you're just starting out? Is there something you can do to put your name out there and make yourself known? This blog post is all about helping new travel agents. We're going to share a few solid tips that you should follow if you want to steadily build your client base.

1. Focus on a Single Travel Supplier

Focusing on a single supplier is always easier than trying to spread your expertise across multiple travel destinations. If you’re a fan of Disney, focus on that and market yourself as a Disney expert. By building trust and selling your first Disney trips, you’ll keep those clients for the long haul, and you’ll be able to sell them other destinations in the future as well.

2. Use Social Media

That one’s really simple: we live in a world that’s connected 24/7. Everyone has their phones in hand and is constantly checking Instagram, X, TikTok, and more. You need to use those platforms to show that you understand what you’re selling. Post pictures, share advice, and always keep your socials updated. It’s a great way to showcase your knowledge and make people feel confident in your expertise.

3. Build your own Website

This one’s almost like an extension of #2. Having your own website can be a big advantage, since you can promote it on your socials, and use your socials to drive traffic back to your site. You can use your website to write guides, publish articles, and give potential clients more confidence when they reach out to you. It’s also a great place for guests to leave reviews and share helpful feedback.

4. Word of Mouth

Word of mouth might be the single most important way to market yourself as a travel agent when you're just starting out. Talk to close friends and family members, and help them plan the perfect trip! Word of mouth is a great way to land your very first guests, and if they’re part of your inner circle, it takes some of the pressure off and gives you valuable experience in the process. It’s a win-win!

5. Yes, there is More

The steps above are the main ones to kickstart your marketing strategy as a travel agent, but there are plenty of other things you can try. These include email campaigns, paid ads on Google, partnerships with YouTube channels, and even hiring an SEO expert to drive traffic to your website. These strategies are great, but they’re probably more effective once you’ve already built a small client base… so think of them as your next step.

We at VacationLab hope these strategies help you out! And don’t forget, talking to other travel agents and asking for advice is also a great strategy. Hi! My name is Luiz Alberto. I'm a huge fan of amusement parks, and I've been traveling to Orlando almost every year since 2001. EPCOT and Islands of Adventure are my favorite parks. And yes, the Tower of Terror is the best ride at Hollywood Studios and one of the best at Disney.
